Custom Deck Builder in Eden Prairie, MN: Why Composite & Maintenance -Free Decking Is the Smart Choice

If you're planning a new deck in Eden Prairie, you already know Minnesota weather doesn't make it easy on outdoor living spaces. Between freeze-thaw winters, humid summers, and heavy snow loads, a deck built from the wrong materials can start showing wear within just a few seasons. At Team Roofing and Remodeling, we build custom, maintenance-free decks designed to handle everything the Minnesota climate throws at them — using the industry's top composite and PVC decking brands: Trex, TimberTech, and AZEK.

Why Go Maintenance-Free?

Wood decks look great on day one, but they demand constant upkeep: sanding, staining, sealing, and replacing boards that split or rot after a few winters. Composite and PVC decking eliminate that cycle entirely — no sanding, no staining, no sealing, just an occasional soap-and-water cleaning. For a Minnesota deck that has to survive freeze-thaw cycles year after year, that's not just a convenience, it's a durability advantage: composite and PVC materials resist the moisture damage and cracking that wear down wood decks in northern climates far faster.

The Three Brands We Build With

Not all "maintenance-free" decking is built the same way. Here's how the three brands we install compare:

Trex

Trex decking is made from up to 95% recycled materials, including reclaimed wood and plastic film, with warranties ranging from 25 to 50 years depending on the line. The lineup runs from Enhance (entry-level, 25-year warranty) up through Select (35-year warranty) to the premium Transcend and Transcend Lineage lines, which carry a 50-year limited residential warranty and the widest color selection. At the top, Trex Signature offers the most photo-realistic wood grain in the lineup and is Trex's most scratch-resistant board.

TimberTech

TimberTech offers two distinct product types. TimberTech Composite is built similarly to Trex — a wood-fiber and recycled-plastic core wrapped in a protective polymer cap — with collections spanning roughly 25 to 50-year warranties depending on the tier. Its premium Advanced PVC lines (Vintage and Landmark collections) go a step further: they carry a Limited Lifetime Product Warranty plus a 50-Year Fade & Stain Warranty, and are engineered to stay noticeably cooler underfoot and more slip-resistant than competing products, wet or dry.

AZEK

AZEK, TimberTech's sister brand under the same parent company, is a full PVC decking product with no wood fiber in the core at all — meaning zero moisture absorption, which is a real advantage in a freeze-thaw climate like ours. Its Vintage collection sits at the top of the lineup with a 50-year fade and stain warranty, while collections like Harvest offer lighter, more classic wood tones. AZEK's color palette spans more than 40 shades, from natural tones to deep, rich hues.

Which Brand Is Right for Your Eden Prairie Deck?

Want the widest color range at a strong mid-to-premium price point? Trex Transcend is hard to beat.
Want a deck that stays cool underfoot on sun-exposed patios and resists slipping? TimberTech Advanced PVC is purpose-built for that.
Want maximum moisture resistance for our brutal freeze-thaw winters, with zero wood fiber in the core? AZEK is the strongest choice.

All three are excellent, low-maintenance options — the right pick really comes down to your budget, your deck's sun exposure, and the look you're going for. We're happy to bring physical samples to your consultation so you can see how each looks in your own backyard's lighting.

What to Expect When You Build With Team Roofing and Remodeling

Every custom deck project we take on in Eden Prairie starts with understanding how you'll actually use the space — entertaining, grilling, relaxing, or all three — and designing around that. From there, our process typically includes:

On-site consultation to assess your yard, sun exposure, and structural needs
Brand and color selection, with Trex, TimberTech, and AZEK samples you can compare in natural light
Custom design, including railing systems, stairs, lighting, and multi-level layouts if needed
Permitting and code compliance, handled for you from start to finish
Professional installation, built to withstand Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles and snow loads

Because installation requirements — joist spacing, fastening systems, hidden-fastener compatibility — vary by brand and product line, proper installation matters just as much as the material itself. Our crews are experienced across all three brands, so your deck is built correctly the first time, no matter which material you choose.
